Our founder was diagnosed with cancer between the time of booking a holiday and date of departure. Travel insurance had been taken out at the time of booking but insurers refused to cover the cancer in spite of it not being a pre-existing condition.

Drawing on his commercial experience he challenged their decision and was directed to an obscure clause which, following legal opinion, he again challenged and at the same time drew the insurers attention to the Disability & Discrimination Act under which all cancer sufferers have defined rights. Knowing that action through the courts or Financial Ombudsman would not be concluded until after the trip a Public Relations consultant was contracted to secure maximum exposure in the media in order to bring the matter to a quick conclusion . The result is that in just two weeks of a multi faceted well organised campaign, the holiday is secure, full insurance cover has been restored, costs have been reimbursed and apologies received from the very top management of  a major banking group. If one person and his dedicated team can achieve this just think what 30,000 of  us acting together can achieve.

When conducting research for the campaign it became apparent that the problems associated with travel insurance are affecting huge numbers of, not only those who are suffering from cancer, but also their close family and friends. Most of you will be familiar with the lack of sensitivity when being questioned about your condition, the dehumanising effect of being assessed by a computer, the inability to have your own medical specialist's opinions heard, the feeling of being a victim of discrimination, the depression, despondency and disappointment of rejection at a time when one needs positivity in their life. Cancer chat rooms are full of heartbreaking stories and we want to mobilise as many of you, your families and friends to support our intended campaign to force change, not only on this issue but on all other day to day practical problems encountered as well as giving advice on an individual basis.   Our founder was fortunate, he had the energy, the will and the resources to fight for his rights which is why he has formed this organisation in the hope that it can help you achieve yours.
